This song is what I like to call a dance song. It makes you want to get up and dance and sing along. But there is way more to the song than just that. The first verse of the song, is questioning the motives of human nature, being money. In our world where is does sometimes seem like money comes before people, these questions are important to ask. The chorus is a lesson. It describes how life isn't about the money you have, and you don't need it. What's important and what is needed is love (the world dancing) like in a club which this song has many allusions to (more about that later). The best part of the chorus for me is the "Money, Money, Money" part. The intervals during those words, is the same as if someone was whining about their money, for example: "I need more Money, Money, Money." This really hits the message home. In the second verse the song describes what the world should be, and what we should do. We should unite and forget about the money. Going back to the club imagery. This song is easily a club song. The beat in the song is irresistible to dance to. The images of people in shades and heals are things that people do at clubs and in life. Guys wear shades to make them look tough, and girls wear heals to show themselves off, but in a club, you can't experience the full atmosphere of the club with lights and peoples face when you can't see them because of sun glasses, and you can't dance in a club when your heals are too high. The refrain of everybody looking to the left and right, is made for a club or a group of people. If everybody looks at the people beside them, the have effectively just looked at the entire group uniting them. This song was intelligently written. Jessie J is an artist all about communicating a message in her songs, and she is very sucsessful in this song as well as her others.
So summary of the song in a sentence: You can't smile when all you care about is shades, heels, and Money, Money, Money.
